WHAT IS EAR CANDLING?

Ear candles have been used by many cultures as an effective natural therapy since ancient times.  The native American Hopi Indians are renowned for their extensive knowledge of healing and their spiritual lifestyle.  The translation of the word Hopi means ‘peaceful ones’.  Ear candles are often referred to as ‘hopi candles’ but to respect the wishes of the Hopi Cultural Preservation Society the use of the name ‘Hopi’ on ear candles is being phased out. Ear candles bring together the elements of fire, heat and scented smoke.  The use of these, together with neck, scalp, ear and facial massage culminates in a fabulously relaxing treatment which can also help alleviate stress, headaches and excessive/compacted ear wax amongst other things.

For this treatment, you will be made comfortable on a massage couch.  The candle itself is a hollow tube made from cotton or linen which is impregnated with bees wax.  When lit, it has a chimney like effect, causing a very mild suction action.  It is a peaceful feeling to smell the scented smoke, feel warmth and hear a gentle crackle as the candle burns.  The candles contain filters to ensure no residue enters the ear and I place a specially designed towelling cloth around the ear area.  Each candle takes approximately 10 minutes to burn.  It is worth noting that sometimes you hear people say they have opened the candle at the end of the treatment and can see wax which has been sucked from the ear.  This is not the case, the residue is from the candle itself.  Any ear wax which has been softened and dislodged is usually expelled up to 48 hours after a treatment, maybe in the shower or during sleep.

This gentle therapy is suitable for adults and children alike.  Shorter treatments would probably be more appropriate for children, depending on their age and payment would alter accordingly.

EAR CANDLING FOLLOWED BY MASSAGE IS SUCH A NICE FEELING AND LEAVES ME FEELING SO RELAXED. THERE IS A SOOTHING CRACKLING SOUND AS THE CANDLE BURNS AND A LOVELY SMELL.
